I am looking at https://docs.tiledb.io/en/latest/tutorials/tiling-sparse.html#space-vs-data-tiles-vs-mbrs and there are six diagram showing the differences as one changes the space and cell order and the capacity.

Looking at the 4x4 -> 8x8 row major diagrams I am wondering if they are correct as shown?

Since the with 4x4 space ordering the first 16 entries are in the upper quadrant, I would have thought converting to a 8x8 space ordering those first 16 entries would have occupied the first two rows.

The original first 4 rows in the 4x4 space tiling diagram is:

X, 1, 2, X, 4, 5, 6, X

3, X, X, X, 7, 8, 9, X

X, X, X, X, 10, 11, X, X

X, X, X, X, 12, 13, 14, 15

Instead of the first 4 rows in the 8x8 space tiling diagram being:

X, 1, 2, X, 3, 4, 5, X

6, X, X, X, 7, 8, 9, X

X, X, X, X, 10, 11, X, X

X, X, X, X, 12, 13, 14, 15

I would have thought they would have been:

X, 1, 2, X, 3, X, X, X

4, 5, 6, X, 7, 8, 9, X

10, 11, X, X, 12, 13, 14, 15

X = empty cells

Don’t you still preserve the empty cell ordering when changing the tiling?

Thanks,

Terry
